Join me to explore the fundamentals of this powerful system of yoga which links breath and concentration to movement and postures. Each class will have a slightly different focus within Ashtanga’s intelligent sequencing; always taking a closer look at technique, movement mechanics, and tools to embody the essence of this method. 


By better understanding and experiencing these foundational elements we have the opportunity to move into a more advanced and intentional practice. We can feel into the subtleties of asana and therefore of our bodies and minds. 


This class is for all levels as a comprehensive introduction to Ashtanga Yoga or a re-discovery of the basics with new perspective.

about me.

My name is Monica Arellano

I am a student of yoga. My curiosity and passion for these ancient practices will fuel me forever. The techniques, the effects, the context, the application, the modern-day implications inspire growth in all aspects of my being. Today, my daily practice consists of asana and seated meditation. Each of these techniques on their own as well as each informing the other have helped me bridge the physical and the spiritual experience.

It makes me really happy to share what I've learned so far and I'm always exploring new and more precise ways of communicating my experiences and the interpretations of my teachers.

I am a Level 2 Authorized teacher in the Ashtanga Yoga Method; a formal blessing received by my teacher R. Sharath Jois in Mysore, India. I continue to travel to Mysore on a yearly basis to learn yoga from the source.

I first connected with the practice of yoga in 2010, looking for a more peaceful way of being. When I found my way to Miami Life Center in 2014 I began a regular Ashtanga Yoga practice and soon after completed a 2 year apprenticeship program under Tim Feldmann, Kino MacGregor, Alexandra Santos, Emilia Arenas and Eddy Rivero.

An important aspect I explore in my practice is continuously coming back to the foundations, to the basics. By re-discovering and finding the intricacies there, we have the potential for insight that can be applied throughout the entire practice and to daily living.

My classes emphasize the breath, alignment, and methods of concentration; in hopes of exploring the deeper intention of Asana and the resulting expression in each student’s unique body and mind. In this space, I believe we can deconstruct unhealthy patterns, facilitate healing on many levels, and find our way back to the most honest version of ourselves.
